Our view of the service

Gray Healthcare provides home based rehabilitation and recovery focused support for adults of working age with severe and enduring mental health needs, autistic spectrum disorder, learning disability, or an acquired brain injury, who may have additionally complex health care needs, which increases their vulnerability. At the time of the assessment the service had 33 clients under their care, located around the country.

The service was last inspected in October and November 2021, the final report finding the service rated as good in safe, effective, responsive and well-led, whilst outstanding in caring. As part of our risk management protocols, we chose to revisit the service to assess two domains, safe and well-led.

Our rating of the service remains the same, with both domains being rated as good.

People's experience of this service

At the time of the assessment, there were 33 clients provided with care by the service, each in their own home and in different locations. We spoke with three of the clients and one carer, clients have the right to refuse to speak with the assessment team. The clients and carer we spoke with were positive about the service, informing us that they felt safe and that they had been involved in the formulation of their care package. We were told that staff were mostly permanent, some occasional agency staff, and we were told that if a staff member and the client or carer were not having a positive impact, the staff member would be removed from the service for that client.

Clients said that staff were helpful, and that they were involved in the formulation of positive behavioural support plans so staff knew the best action to take should a client become frustrated, angry or refuse to take medication, actions taken with the agreement of the client. No negatives were raised, clients and carer told us that they knew how to escalate any problem they may have to senior management.

We were told that “staff were great”, and clients felt that staff were there to help them, not make them do something they did not want to do.
