Specialist Medical Transport provides emergency and urgent care and patient transport services. This includes the transportation of children and people with mental health concerns. During this assessment we looked at both emergency and urgent care and patient transport services provided at the Basildon and Devon sites.
Our inspection was prompted by concerns relating to medicines management, equipment, vehicle safety, staff training, and infection control. Key issues included service user care problems, workplace bullying, operational safety lapses, data breaches, and regulatory non-compliance.
The location was rated Good at this assessment. In our assessment we found the following areas of good practice:
There was a learning culture where concerns were promptly investigated by managers. People were kept safe, with staff effectively managing risks. Facilities and equipment were clean and well-maintained. There were enough skilled staff, who received regular training and appraisals. Medicines were managed well.
People were treated with kindness and compassion, their privacy and dignity were protected, and staff supported their preferences. Leaders and staff shared a vision based on listening, learning, and trust. Staff felt supported to give feedback and were treated equally. Managers worked with the community to deliver the best care and fostered a culture of continuous improvement.
