Date of assessment: 18 March to 10 April 2025. Holly House Residential Home is a care home providing accommodation and personal care to up to 28 older people, including people living with dementia.
Regular audits and checks were carried out, which included care records, medicines, health and safety and staff practice. Some risks relating to the environment had not always been identified and mitigated. Accidents and incidents were analysed to identify and share any lessons learnt and ensure people’s safety. The provider ensured there was enough skilled and trained staff to meet people’s needs. People’s care needs were assessed and monitored. Risks to people had been assessed on an individual basis with plans and strategies in place to mitigate those risks. Staff understood and managed risks. However, we observed not all staff ensured people’s safety when supporting them to move. Care plans were up to date and reflected people’s individual needs, with the involvement of people and their relatives. Staff supported people to manage their health and wellbeing. Where people did not have the capacity to consent and make decisions about their care, staff had involved the people closest to them to make sure decisions were made in their best interests and were the least restrictive option. People were supported by the same group of care staff which enabled continuity of care. People and their relatives were given opportunities to provide feedback and raise any concerns they had. People were treated equally and had access to healthcare services when required. Staff were supported by the provider and their wellbeing was promoted. Staff felt confident to speak up and raise ideas and suggestions. The provider understood their legal responsibilities and was visible in the service to provide support to staff and ensure the safety and wellbeing of people.
