During an assessment under our new approach
Date of Assessment: 01/04/2025 until 22/04/2025. The service is a care home providing nursing care. The service provides support to adults of all ages living with dementia and nursing needs. The service was identified for an assessment due to information received from the local authority and notifications to CQC. We found the provider and leadership team were receptive in responding to improvements identified during this assessment. Before our assessment the provider worked with partners to make improvements to people’s care. The provider had a good learning culture and people could raise concerns. Managers investigated incidents thoroughly. People were protected and kept safe. Staff made sure people understood their care and treatment to enable them to give informed consent. Staff involved those important to people to be present in best interests decisions where they did not have capacity. There were enough staff with the right skills, qualifications and experience. Managers made sure staff received training and regular appraisals to maintain a standard of care. Leaders and staff had a shared vision and culture based on listening, learning and trust.
People and relatives were positive about the quality of their care. People told us they felt safe, one person said, ‘Feel very safe, any alarms such as fire go off, then action is taken, they keep you safe’. People told us when they required assistance this would be acted on quickly, for example, one person said, ‘I press the buzzer and within 2-3 minutes staff come in and support me’. People and relatives commented on how friendly the staff were and how they treated people with dignity and respect. People provided feedback on how the home met their care and health needs. One relative said, ‘since being at the home, [relative] has bounced back and gained weight’. People were aware of how to raise a complaint and felt confident in approaching leaders. We observed people were comfortable with staff. One person said, ‘Staff friendly do their best all the time, never found anyone of them grumpy, absolutely treat me with dignity and respect’.
