During an assessment under our new approach
Cedar court care home provides residential care for older people with dementia. People in care homes receive accommodation and nursing or personal care as a single package under one contractual agreement. CQC regulates both the premises and the care provided, and both were looked at during this assessment. There were 44 people using the service at the time of this assessment.
Assessment activity started on 15/11/2024 and ended 06/03/2025. This assessment was prompted in part by concerns about infection control and staffing. There was a registered manager in post at the time of this assessment.
We looked at all the quality statements. During the site visit, we spoke with 6 people and 2 relatives, the registered manager, provider, activities co-ordinator, 2 senior staff members and 6 care staff. Following the site visit, we spoke with 10 relatives by telephone and received feedback from two healthcare professionals.
The last rating for the service under the previous provider was Good. The service was taken over by a new provider in 2023 and this is their first assessment. During this assessment, we found the quality of care had deteriorated. The service was found to be in breach of nine regulations in relation to person centred care, dignity and respect, need for consent, safe care and treatment, meeting nutritional and hydration needs, premises and equipment, staffing, good governance and fit and proper persons employed. CQC have decided to take enforcement action against the service, we will publish this information on our website after any representations and/or appeals have been concluded.
This service is being placed in special measures. The purpose of special measures is to ensure that services providing inadequate care make significant improvements. Special measures provide a framework within which we use our enforcement powers in response to inadequate care and provide a timeframe within which providers must improve the quality of the care they provide.
